Hands-on session emphasizing the fluid nature of flight offering attendees the opportunity to analyze relative flight paths and timing in planning a painting.

Hands-on session in which Norm Siegel
will lead attendees in developing a series
of quick thumbnail sketches illustrating a detailed story told by Norm. This will offer an insight into the process used by art directors in advertising, television commercials, and movies in composing scenes. (Norm Siegel)
“Business Practices Session”
An expert panel will answer pre-determined questions submitted in advance by the membership.

Thursday, June 10th "San Diego Day"

Aircraft Carrier Midway Museum
Self-guided tours of this historic ship. San Diego is the birthplace of Naval Aviation. The day will continue with An afternoon at Naval Air Station North Island with the possibility of visiting a nuclear aircraft carrier, observing flight simulators, and spending time with the operational
Naval Aviation Units on the base.

Friday, June 11th "Drawing & Painting Day"

A Day at Gillespie Airport
ASAA will be guests of Bill and Claudia Allen at their Museum and Hangar Community with aircraft from the twenties, thirties and forties.

  • Planes to expect: 1926 Boeing FB5; 1930 Stearman C3R; 1940 Ryan STM-2; 1942 Ryan PT-22; 1943 Boeing Stearman Custom; the late Steve McQueen’s 1945 Boeing Stearman; plus a Fairey Firefly; Bucher Jungman; Stinson SR-5E and others.
  • Artist Lisa Bormann Demonstration: Lisa will demonstrate the value of outdoor painting for aviation artists and will offer critiques for those who make a request.
  • Lunch will be in the Allen Hangar
