ASAA Forum Dates: June 4-9, 2012

Selected works will be the best submitted
by artists from around the world. In addition to
numerous ASAA and other exhibition awards,
Aviation Week & Space Technology Magazine
(AW&ST) will select the "Best of the Best" winner
and winners in each of four categories: Commercial,
Military, General Aviation and Space.
Winners will appear in AW&ST's December 2012
Photo and Aviation Art Issue. Valuable cash
prizes will be awarded.

AWARDS

Artists are encouraged to paint for specific awards such as the
Capt. Duane Whitney Martin Award, and the
Women in Aviation Award.

Listed below are some of the awards anticipated for the exhibition.
There may be others, so check the ASAA website
www.asaa-avart.org for updates. If an ASAA artist entering the
exhibition at the ASAA entry fee rate receives an ASAA Award
and has not paid their dues, the dues amount will be deducted
from the award amount.

James V. Roy, Jr. $1500
For the best artwork in the
exhibition by an ASAA member.

Award of Distinction $1000

For the best artwork in the exhibition.

Merit Awards (2) $500 each.

 

Aviation Week & Space Technology Magazine Awards. To be
considered for an Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine
award, artwork must be identified in the following categories:
Commercial Aviation, General Aviation, Military Aviation, or
Space. Choose the desired category on the entry form for each
artwork submitted.

Best of the Best $1000
For the best artwork in the exhibition.

    • 1st place $500 for each category.

ForeFeathers ™ Enterprises’ Plaque du Beaque Award
$100. Presented for the most creative approach to telling an
aviation story or depicting an aviation event at the Annual Exhibition
of the American Society of Aviation Artists.

Founder's Awards Ribbons Gold and (2) Silver
For the best original art (no prints) in the unjuried exhibition.

RULES FOR ARTIST ENTRANTS

Entry Deadline: Entries must be received by
11:59p.m. U.S. Eastern Standard Time April 15, 2012.

Artists are responsible for the legal and ethical integrity
of their artwork. An artwork may be rejected by jurors if,
in the jurors' opinions, the artwork appears to be derived
from another's art (including copyrighted or public domain
photography).

All participants warrant that their work will be their own
creation and never plagiarize the work of others, nor infringe
upon the copyrights of artists, photographers or
other entities.

Slides are no longer accepted.


Accepted artwork submitted not exhibiting the quality indicated
in the scanned digital image will be disqualified
by the hanging committee.

Who May Enter:All artists are invited to submit entries for this juried
exhibition. Only the artist creator may submit the artwork. Publishers,
galleries, agents, and collectors may not submit artwork on behalf of
artists. If the work is not currently in the artist’s possession, it will be
the artist’s responsibility to insure availability and arrange for shipping
of the work in time to meet deadlines.

Theme and Eligibility: This is an open theme exhibition and art- work depicting any aerospace subject is eligible. Works appearing in prior ASAA exhibits are ineligible. Only original artwork will be accepted. Computer generated art is ineligible. Photographs, photo-offset lithographs, giclées, computer graphics, or other reproductions will not be accepted. True fine art prints are acceptable. This includes etchings, serigraphs, stone lithographs, and woodcuts, all of which are hand printed one at a time.

Duration: Any artwork submitted must be available for the duration
of the exhibition.

Artwork:Artwork must be properly framed (artwork on paper must
be protected by acrylic glazing), wired, and ready for hanging with
the artist's name and title of painting clearly printed on the back of
the artwork, or it will not be hung. Sculptural entries must give overall
dimensions on the entry form. Accepted artwork submitted not
exhibiting the quality indicated in the scanned digital image will be
disqualified by the hanging committee.

Release: Aviation Week & Space Technology will select the best of
these entries for awards. Selected award-winning entries will be reproduced
in the magazine's December 2012 special photography
and aerospace art issue. Each entry form has a release statement
covering certain use of the artwork by Aviation Week & Space Technology
and The American Society of Aviation Artists. This release
must be signed by the artist for each entered work. Failure to sign
the release will invalidate the entry.


HOW TO ENTER

are at the end of this document. Please read all entry conditions before submitting your entry.

There is no limit on the number of entries submitted but only a maximum
of three entries can be juried into the exhibition. Entry is by
scanned digital images only, of original art (slides are no longer accepted).
Entry forms may be submitted by mail with CD or online
submission with scanned digital entries. Payment may be made by
check if by mail, or by credit card if by on-line submission (for those
entrants with internet access). Online submission of entry information
is encouraged, even if you are submitting a CD.
On-line registrationwill be available after November 15, 2011.

MEDIA

Digital images:Digital images of the original art may be submitted
online or on a CD. Images must be sized to fit within a 1500 X 3500
pixels image area at 300 dpi and are in JPEG format.
Do not send original art, photo prints, giclees, or litho prints for jurying.


ENTRY FORMS

Online Forms: On-line registration will be available after November
15, 2011. Online submission of entry information is encouraged even if you are submitting CD’s by mail. To submit online, click here. You will be asked to fill out the form and submit it. There will be space for description of the artwork, and an artist biography. You may prepare this information in a text editor, offline, and use cut & paste to enter the information into the form if you wish. If you would like to submit your scanned images at this time, there will be a place on the form allowing you to upload your images. A high-speed Internet connection should make this process quick and simple. Be aware that uploading your images can be time consuming if your Internet connection is by Modem, perhaps 4 or 5 minutes per image..

Paper Forms:Completely fill out the entry form. Make copies if necessary.
Use one (1) entry form and a digital scan on CD for each
entry. There is no limit on the number of entries submitted but a maximum
of 3 artworks for any artist would be accepted. A 100 word (or
less), description of the subject matter and a 100 word (or less), biography
must be submitted. Copy must be proof read, as we will not
review this document for correctness. Please do not attach a separate
biography from a brochure.

Your application will not be accepted unless all forms are completely
filled out and all applicable fees are paid prior to the jurying
process. ASAA members must be in good standing if
submitting entries using member rate fees.



If you would like your disc returned, please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Entry fee:
The entry fee is $20 per entry for ASAA members and
$40 per entry for nonmembers. Please write only one (1) check
made payable to "ASAA Exhibit" to cover all of your entries. If you
are willing to use the PayPal credit card service, you may make a secure
online payment of your entry fees by credit card by clicking here: Cashier.

Those of you with an existing PayPal account can simply send payment to treasurer@asaa-avart.org

Only ASAA members whose dues are paid in full by the Call for
Entry deadline qualify for the $20 per entry ASAA discount rate.
All other entrants pay the $40 per entry rate. Dues and entry
fees can be paid by check or online at the ASAA Cashier page
(click here Cashier.)


DEADLINES AND NOTIFICATION

Completed entry forms, media, and entry fees must be received
by April 15, 2012.
Entries received after that date will be returned
unjuried. Entrants will be notified whether their artwork
has been accepted or not by letter to be mailed by April 30, 2012.

“Gallery wrap” framing is permitted but must be professionally
presented. No staples or tacks are allowed to show on the
sides of the gallery wrapped frame.


SHIPPING AND INSURANCE

Artists are responsible for shipping and insurance of their artwork to
the exhibition. Return shipment and insurance of artwork will be paid
by ASAA for ASAA members only. Non-ASAA artists will be responsible
for shipping and insurance of their work both ways. Join ASAA,
as an Associate Member ($40/year) and we will cover your return
shipping and insurance costs.
All ASAA paintings for US and Canadian artists will be shipped by
UPS or FedEx Ground, insured. Be sure your return address is a
street address accepting UPS or FedEx delivery.Return shipping and insurance fee will be limited to a maximum of $200.
Artist are solely responsible for all shipping arrangements. The host
venue will not be involved in transactions that require banking issues
needed to resolve shipping concerns or problems.
